Dr. Tyrone Bledsoe joins Shared Cause as senior consulting associate after many years as one of our clients.  We have had the privilege of working with Tyrone in his role as founder and CEO-President of the Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB) Organization.

Early in his career, while serving as Assistant Vice President of student affairs at Georgia Southwestern State University, Tyrone was struck by the gap between six-year graduation rates for Black males and white males — 33% versus 57%.  Financial struggles didn’t account for all of it. Inadequate preparation didn’t either.  What he discovered was that these young Black men lacked a fundamental social network of support, guidance and encouragement. That was the inspiration for SAAB, and now the organization serves more than 12,000 students in 355 chapters in 41 states.

At Shared Cause, Tyrone contributes an invaluable equity lens to our work, in education and beyond.  His expertise also allows us to offer intensive training to institutions of higher learning that are seeking to better serve young men of color, setting them up for success not only at college, but also in the working world.  Tyrone will continue his leadership of SAAB and balance it with his work for Shared Cause.

He received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees from Mississippi State University. He completed his Ph.D. in Counseling and Student Affairs Administration, with an emphasis in Counseling Psychology, at the University of Georgia.
